UTTARAKHAND
Uttarakhand, formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a northern state of India. It is also known as the 'Land of Gods' (literally "Land of the Gods") as it is home to many Hindu temples and pilgrimage centers throughout the state. Uttarakhand is known for its natural environment of the Himalayas, Bhabar and Terai regions.
It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region in northern China; Sudurpashim region in eastern Nepal; The Indian states are Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh in the south, west and northwest. The state is divided into two divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon, with a total of 13 districts.
The winter capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun, the largest city in the state and the summer capital of Uttarakhand is Guizain in Chamoli district.
Due to its location in the Himalayas, Uttarakhand has a number of tourist attractions. Many ancient temples, forest reserves, national parks, hill stations and mountain peaks attract many tourists. There are 44 nationally protected monuments in the state.
