Surat Diamond Bourse inauguration: Built at a cost of around Rs 3,500 crore, the building has an area of 67 lakh square feet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's largest office building, Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat. Built at a cost of around Rs 3,500 crore, the building has an area of 67 lakh square feet. It also has the capacity to set up about 4,500 diamond trading offices. Built on 35.54 acres of land, the building has nine ground towers and 15 floors. In August, the building, part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (Dream) City, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest office building.


 The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement that the Surat Diamond Exchange will be the world's largest and most modern center for the international diamond and jewelery business. This building is a global center for trade in diamonds and jewellery. It is equipped with state-of-the-art 'Customs Clearance House' for import and export, a jewelery mall for retail jewelery business, international banking and secure vaults.


 The construction of Surat Diamond Exchange started in February 2015. Construction will be completed in 2022. The office space in the building ranges from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft. The building is made up of nine square towers connected together. Earlier, the building was awarded platinum ranking by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
