Amit Shah on Article 370
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said in Parliament that history will remember the decision taken by our government regarding Article 370. Article 370 fueled separatism. That is why terrorism has risen. Our government has given laptops in the hands of youths who were roaming around with stones in Jammu and Kashmir. Let's make decisions. Can't run away. He added that when the time is right, elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir and statehood will be given at the right time.
Earlier, following the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was reorganized into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Four years later, the Supreme Court ruled that the exercise of power by the President was not wrong. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud ruled that the President's 2019 order revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was valid. The Supreme Court also ruled that the Election Commission (EC) should take steps to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024. The court also directed that the state status of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir be restored as soon as possible. The judgment was delivered by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Gavai and Justice Suryakant. Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna are the other members of the bench.
